Icom IC-F9000 and IC-F9500 trunked P25 radios

A range of trunked P25 radios has been released.

The key feature is the ability to operate as a mixed mode analog/P25/trunked unit. The transceivers also comply with digital transceiver performance standards, providing inter-operability with P25 equipment from other suppliers.

The radios are available as both handheld (IC-F9000 series) and mobile (IC-F9500 series) units.

The radios are supplied as standard with P25 conventional and trunking capabilities, as well as analog conventional. This allows the user to assign individual channels to each of these three modes within the single radio.

Through mixed mode operation, it is also possible to detect and receive analog and digital signals and, depending on programming, it has the potential to transmit on both modes.

Over-the-air-rekeying is now also supported, giving users enhanced encryption and a more secure communications channel. The handheld radios are also supplied as standard with a 3040 mAh lithium-ion battery, providing about 9 h of typical use.

These innovations are said to combine the features required from today’s public safety sector. Other features include optional AES/DES encryption, a large dot matrix display, 1000 mW audio output power for clear communications and a strong IP57 mil-spec design.
