Project 25 - Exploring the myths, clearing up the misconceptions
The Project 25 digital radio standard first was contemplated more than two decades ago to provide a common architecture for manufacturers, in order to ensure that their equipment was interoperable, which would provide end users with multiple benefits. Today, many public-safety agencies are using P25 systems and equipment, though the standard continues to evolve.
This event will examine the standard’s evolution, its current status and whether it has lived up to its promise. In the process, several key questions will be explored, including:
- Has Phase 1 met expectations?
- Which agencies should consider migrating to Phase 2?
- What issues exist regarding security and backwards compatibility?
- Why has public safety been slow to adopt ISSI?
- What are the funding opportunities regarding P25 system and equipment deployments?
- Does P25 help or hinder 700 MHz narrowbanding?
- Will P25 be relevant in a broadband world?
